Deep cleaning vs standard cleaning: what is the difference?

A standard clean keeps a home in good shape week to week. A deep clean resets it. Here is what each one covers, when a deep clean is worth booking, and how a recurring schedule keeps your home at a steady level.

Two kinds of clean, two different jobs

When people call us for a quote, one of the first questions is whether they need a standard clean or a deep clean. The two sound similar, but they do different jobs. A standard clean is maintenance. It handles the dust, crumbs, smudges and trash that build up in normal daily life, so the home stays fresh and easy to live in. A deep clean is a reset. It reaches the places that a regular visit does not touch every time and brings the whole home back to a clean starting point.

Think of it like a car. Washing it every week or two keeps it looking good. Every so often, though, it needs a full detail, inside the vents, under the seats and along the trim. Homes work the same way. Most households do best with a mix of both: a deep clean to set the baseline, then standard visits to hold it there.

What a standard clean covers

Our standard cleaning is built for recurring visits. On each one, the MCG team works through the main rooms of the home and focuses on the tasks that make the biggest difference to how a home looks and feels day to day.

  • All standard living areas, plus kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms
  • Vacuuming of carpets and rugs
  • Mopping of hard floors
  • Dusting of reachable surfaces
  • Surface sanitation in kitchens and bathrooms
  • Trash removal

What a deep clean adds

A deep clean includes everything in a standard service and then goes further. It takes more time because the team slows down and works on the details that collect grime gradually, the kind of buildup you stop noticing until it is gone.

  • Baseboards along every room
  • Light fixtures
  • Hand-wiped surfaces throughout the home
  • Detailed kitchen and bathroom restoration
  • Interior cabinet fronts
  • The corners and edges that do not get attention week to week

When a deep clean makes sense

You do not need a deep clean every visit. There are a few moments, though, when it is the right call.

  • Your first visit with us. A deep clean gives our team a clean baseline, so every standard visit after it starts from a good place instead of catching up.
  • A seasonal reset. Spring and fall are popular times, when windows have been closed for months or the home has been busy through the holidays.
  • Before guests arrive. If family is coming to stay, a deep clean takes care of the guest bathroom, the kitchen and the spots visitors notice.
  • After guests leave. Extra people in the house means extra traffic on floors, bathrooms and kitchen surfaces.
  • After someone in the home has been sick. Once everyone is feeling better, a thorough clean of bathrooms, kitchen surfaces and the things people touch most helps the household get back to normal.

How recurring service keeps a home steady

The real benefit of a standard recurring clean is consistency. When the same tasks happen on a regular rhythm, dirt never gets the chance to settle in. Kitchens stay wiped down, bathrooms stay sanitized and floors stay clear. Each visit is lighter work because the last one was recent, and your home stays at a level you can count on instead of swinging between spotless and overdue.

We offer recurring service on a weekly, biweekly or monthly schedule. Weekly works well for busy households, homes with kids or pets, or anyone who wants the house to feel freshly cleaned most of the time. Biweekly is a common middle ground for couples and smaller homes. Monthly suits people who keep up with daily tidying and want a professional pass on a regular basis. Customers on a weekly or biweekly schedule receive a discount on every visit, and monthly cleans are billed at standard pricing.

Add-ons for either kind of clean

Some jobs fall outside both lists but are easy to add to any standard or deep clean. Our add-ons include inside the oven, inside the refrigerator, inside windows, laundry (wash, dry and fold) and dishes. Many customers add the oven and refrigerator a few times a year rather than every visit, which keeps a recurring plan simple while still covering the bigger jobs.

Not sure which one you need?

Because homes vary so much in condition, deep cleaning pricing starts from a base rate by home size, and the final price is set after a walkthrough. That way you know exactly what is included before we begin.

If it has been a while since your home had a thorough cleaning, start with a deep clean and then move to recurring standard visits. If your home is already in good shape and you simply want help keeping it there, a standard recurring clean is usually enough. Either way, tell us a little about your home, how many bedrooms and bathrooms it has, and how often you would like service. We will recommend a plan that fits, in English or Spanish, and follow up with a quote.
